The Stop TB Partnership KOREA of The Korean National Tuberculosis Association and Mongolian Government Concludes the Extension of the project for Combat against TB

The Stop TB Partnership KOREA of the Korean National Tuberculosis Association has signed an extension agreement with the Mongolian government in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on September 4th to accelerate the fight against TB.

The agreement was signed by the Stop TB Partnership KOREA, Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation, Seegene Co., Ltd., Seegene Medical Foundation, and L & K Biomed Co., Vice Minister of Health of Mongolia, members of the National Assembly, Korean Ambassador to Mongolia and other officials.

The project to eradicate tuberculosis in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, started in 2015 and has been ongoing for three years now, and through active medical examinations with mobile check-up vehicles, many TB patients were detected and treated early, contributing to the reduction of tuberculosis prevalence in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Through this project, about 17,000 Mongolian college students and tuberculosis patients were examined by August 2017, and 40 of 110 patients with TB were cured and healthy social rehabilitation was achieved.

In particular, the mobile screening project can find patients early on by actively seeking out patients who visit them directly, raising the number of TB patients detected in Ulaanbaatar City every year.

In addition, the success rate of treatment was improved by systematic medication management through professional medication agent, not just the examination.

As a result of this achievement, the project will be supported by the National Center for Communicable Disease of Mongolia and the Mongolian Anti-Tuberculosis Association as technical partners.

This extension agreement will provide better medical services to Mongolian people suffering from tuberculosis and introduce Korea's latest TB management technology to relevant medical personnel. Ultimately, it is expected that Mongolia will be able to develop its capacity to carry out its own TB eradication projects.
