Korea-Mongolia Joint Project on TB Control in Ulaanbaatar - Expediting Mobile Screening for 2017



STOP-TB Partnership Korea (under the Korean National Tuberculosis Association) has been carrying out a mobile screening project since March 2016 for the underprivileged in Chingeltei, Mongolia, and also for students at Mongolian Science and Technology University, Law Enforcement University in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

In 2017, together with the existing partners Hyundai CMK Foundation and Seegene INC., and Seegene Medical Foundation, the Korea International Healthcare Foundation will receive an additional KRW 211 million to support the project. This will enable additional 10,000 people to participate in the mobile screening.

In addition, Mongolian Ministry of Health and National Epidemic Center officials will be invited to Korea to participate in the international seminar to be held in April this year on the theme of "International Health Security and Global TB Strategy." The future plans of this project will also be discussed in detail at this event.

As part of the Mongolia Tuberculosis Control Project, the Korean National Tuberculosis Association will provide mobile screening services to the vulnerable classes and youths (mainly college students) in Ulaanbaatar region, jointly with the Hyundai Motor CMK Foundation, Seegene, Segene Medical Foundation, and the Korea International Healthcare Foundation. It is an international development cooperation project aiming at eradicating and preventing tuberculosis by actively discovering tuberculosis patients. Through this project, 10,770 people were diagnosed with x-rays and 59 patients with TB were diagnosed by January 2017. Currently, 43 patients are under treatment and 9 have been treated successfully.
